  • Overview

    The Custodian position maintains a clean work enviroment in offices, warehouse, production areas and other building interiors.

    Responsibilities

    1. Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and other related equipment and/or the appropriate cleaning solution/chemical in designated areas throughout the site per schedule and upon request using established practices and procedures.
    2. Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes walls, doors, designated equipment and work stations/offices, cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures and other items on the ceiling, walls and work stations/offices in all designated areas per schedule and upon request to maintain a clean work environment.
    3. Cleans and sanitizes break rooms and training rooms including floors, tables, walls, countertops, sinks, coffee pots/makers, dishes, etc. per schedule and upon request using established practices and procedures.
    4. Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, equipment and other related items to clean areas.  May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls and floors using pre-approved chemicals and cleaning solutions.
    5. Washes and cleans blinds and other window coverings, and accessible interior/exterior windows per schedule and upon request using established practices and procedures.
    6. Cleans all areas and maintains supplies in dispensers in all designated bathrooms and wash stations on a routine basis and upon request using established practices and procedures.
    7. Ensures cleanliness of designated common and public areas per schedule and upon request using established practices and procedures.
    8. Removes and replaces trash bags from cans and properly disposes of rubbish.
    9. Maintains cleaning and other related supplies in designated supply area(s) per published safety and inventory requirements; requests supplies as needed.
    10. Works in collaboration with office supply ordering to ensure break rooms are stocked with paper goods, soap, coffee, creamer, cups, sugar, etc.
    11. Cleans other items and areas as directed for purposes of safety and health; prepares designated areas for events and meetings as needed; sweeps/cleans sidewalk and exterior public areas.
    12. Adhere to the company’s safety and environmental policies to create a safe work environment; wears appropriate personal protective equipment per safety protocols.
    13. Maintains equipment used in assigned tasks in a hazard free and safe manner, changing filters and other items as needed; Responds to small repair calls for such activities as replacing light bulbs, cleaning up a non-toxic spill, removing damaged office furniture, etc. 
    14. Lock and unlock assigned buildings/offices; secure building when facilities are not in use, checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn on/off lights.
    15. Per safety standards, accurately maintains a library of safety data sheets for chemicals used; Maintains a library of user manuals for equipment used that can be referred to when needed.
    16. Assists with special projects and other organizational needs upon request.

    Qualifications

    Education - Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent

     

    Experience - At least 2 years recent experience as a custodian, janitor or other cleaning specialist in a workplace environment.

     

    Minimum Knowledge, skills and abilities:

    • Ability to effectively communicate with team members
    • Ability to work with a high degree of Professionalism 
    • Ability to follow schedules and directions
    • Ability to read, write and speak in English
    • Ability to use basic math skills for mixing/use of solutions, supply inventory and other related items
    • Reliable attendance with the ability to work evenings and some weekends
    • Ability to maintain supply inventory and order supplies as needed
    • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets for safe use of cleaning solutions and other chemicals and user manuals
    • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets and chemical use for cleaning
    • Basic computer knowledge including e-mails and internet research for information
    • Basic skills to maintain equipment used in assigned job tasks
